Damien’s Trail of Blood is not one of the most active bands around, that’s for sure. They don’t play much live, even though they had a very good first record, and they are now giving their second album away for free. Having said that, this is certainly proof of strong character, and it’s also a statement – that they do what they want, when and how they want.
“The Beginning of the end” is a natural evolution from the debut self-titled EP. Everything is heavier, more elaborate and powerful – especially if you consider Saruga’s voice, which seems deliberately heavier and more powerful than ever in a much lower pitch. This is a great second record, it’s better than the first one, and we all know that task is not an easy one.
Even though overall the album sounds really tight, you can find obvious highlights in the opening track “Salmo”, first single “Psycho in Denial” and the progressive-thrash monument that is “Crawl!!!”.
Damien’s Trail of Blood is in great shape, and this album certainly reinforces their status within the metal community in Portugal and hopefully abroad.
